Southwest University for Nationalities

In order to reinforce the management of foreign students and improve the level of management and service quality of foreign students, SWUN establishes foreign students’ regulation. The regulation begins to put in practice from the date that is established.

Ⅰ.Students' Rule

1.Obey the laws, policies and regulations of the Chinese government; accept the arrangements of the University. Do not engage in illegal religious activities, doing missionary work is not allowed.

2.Observe all the regulations of Southwest University for Nationalities.

Respect the faculty and staff.

3.Respect people’s customs and habits of all nations.

4.Respect your fellow students, cultivate their friendship, and help each other.

5.Don’t be late for class. You should ask for leave if you cannot attend class.

6.Keep clean and pay attention to hygiene. No smoking in the classrooms.

7.Study hard to complete required courses. Participate in all kinds of activities organized by the University.

8.Please do not make noise in the classrooms, cafeteria, or any other public areas.

9.Please be careful with your electrical appliances. Turn off air conditioners, fans and heaters when you go out. Be careful when using gas to avoid fires.

10.The last week of each semester is exam time. The final performance is made up of class attendance (30%) and exam results (70%). Participating in activities organized by the University is also considered class attendance. Students who have finished the courses required by the teaching plan and have taken part in and passed the exams will be granted with a certificate of completion.

11.Every semester will host the Mandatory Orientation, if you can’t participate this meeting with no reason, that means you miss one class.

Ⅱ.Visa

1.The university will apply for, or extend an X-visa for students for one semester at one time. In principle, students should pay all the tuition fees when applying or extending their X-visa. If you stop studying at any time during the semester, we cannot refund your tuition.

2.If a student wishes, he or she may apply for a one year's X-visa by registering and paying for one year’s tuition in advance.

3.After students get the new visa, a copy of new visa page should be submitted to the foreign students' office.

Ⅲ.Registration

1.Students with x-visa from our university should come to foreign student office to register before the registration deadline.（The first week of March and The first week of September）

2.Students who fail to register before the deadline shall apply to the University for Leave in advance. The leave allowed shall not exceed two weeks.

3.Students who fail to register before the registration deadline or within the expiration date of the leave will be regarded as giving up students' status. The university will report the name list of the students to Administration Division of Exit and Entry of Chengdu Public Security Bureau and their student visas will be cancelled.

Ⅳ.Asking for Leave

1.Students have to attend the class according to the university calendar and enjoy all China's holidays.

2.Students have to participate in all teaching events prescribed by the teaching plan. Students who fail to participate in any teaching events should ask for leave in advance. Students who ask for leave for over two days should come to foreign student office to register and fill in 《Foreign Students in Southwest University for Nationalities Asking for Leave》， you can't leave the university until you get the authorization from foreign student office. Otherwise, the student will bear the full responsibilities for the consequences by herself/himself, the university won't extend visa for them.

3.Students who are absent from class for no reason will be given punishment according to the stipulated regulation of the university. Students who are severely absent from class (To be absent without reasonable excuses, for more than 10 classes per Semester) indicates the student’s willingness to withdraw from our University.

Ⅴ.Departure

1. Students wishing to end their studies and return home must come to the foreign student office to inform us of your leave and to discontinue your studies here.  

2. If students won't continue to study in our university after one semester, the university won't apply to extend visa for them.

VI.ON Part-Time Work to Aid Ones' Study

1. Those students who come to China with X or F visa should not be employed in China without permission of authorities of the Chinese government.

2.  But in some certain cases, if someone applies for it to Overseas Students Office and an agreement has been made with employer, and permitting paper is issued, and then you may take that job. Anyway, try to avoid any influence to your study program.

3. Working in the nightclub is not allowed.

Ⅶ.Off-Campus Housing

1.According to some competent authority’s regulations, foreign students can live off-campus. But foreign students should finish application procedure according to the corresponding regulations.

2.Those students who desire off-campus housing should go to the local police Station to finish application procedure and offer the following documents:

(1) To make a contract with the landlord and obtain "The Security Responsibilities Agreement" between the landlord and the local police station.

(2) To fill the Accommodation Registration Form for Foreigners at local police station.

To finish above paper work, foreign students can apply RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR FOREIGNERS and change your old address at Alien's Exit and Entry Administration Office of the Chengdu Municipal Public Security Bureau.

3.Students who live off-campus shall submit a copy of Accommodation Registration Form for Foreigners to the foreign student office.
